wall painting

Wall painting can be a great way to add a touch of personality to your space and give a room a unique look. It’s also a fun project to take on as it requires a little imagination and a bit of DIY skills.

Paint Effects

There are many different effects you can add to your walls, and they’re really easy to do yourself! These paint techniques can change the whole feel of a room and they’re so simple you can even get your kids involved.

Colour Wash

This is one of the easiest techniques to do and it can really make your walls stand out from the rest! You can use this technique on feature walls, or just to add some extra texture and depth to your base colours. It can be applied over a standard interior paint and if done correctly it will give your walls a rustic, time-weathered look.

Rustic Glaze

This looks very similar to a colour wash but it works in a slightly different way. This is a great effect to use on a feature wall or to help hide the roughness of plaster. The glaze can be a few shades darker or lighter than the base coat, so it can help to give your walls a nice layered effect.

Strie Brush

This a great way to add a textured effect to your walls, and it’s also a fantastic way to create a linen weave look! This is a popular technique and has been used for years by painting companies to create a truly unique effect.

You will need a paintbrush and a stencil mount spray (available from DIY or art shops). Then choose a design you’d like to use on your wall, and get ready to get creative!

Polka Dots

If you want a really easy and cheap way to spruce up your walls, then polka dots are the answer. These are easy to create and can be made any size or shape you want. They can also be painted a bold or sober colour to make your wall stand out from the rest.

Diamonds, Chevrons and Checkerboards

If your clients want something more eye-catching for their walls, then consider creating a geometric pattern with a stencil. These can be anything from a classic harlequin (diamond) to chevrons and interlocking squares or triangles.

Rainbow Paint

A rainbow is a great way to add a touch colour to a room, and can be done in any number of ways. You can choose a traditional rainbow or you can go for an ombre style by using two to three different hues. You can also have your client choose a bright shade and a darker tones so that you can create the rainbow.

Metal and Patina Paint

This can be a really great effect to use for a bedroom or kitchen. This technique uses a base paint and then a metal or patina glaze on top. The base color will bleed through the glaze, giving a metal and patina look to the walls.
